ROAD TEST

The Registry of Motor Vehicles can be a stressful place. If you’ve ever had to do business with the RMV you know what we mean. Meadows Driving School can help to alleviate some, if not all, of that stress. Meadows Driving School offers road tests both on site at Meadows Driving School in Palmer and at the Southbridge RMV Branch.

The Final Destination

Upon completion of all components of our driver’s education course, which includes 30hrs of classroom instruction, 12 hours of behind the wheel instruction, 6 hours of observing another student drive, and completion of the parent class every student is required to pay Meadows Driving School $25 for the Driver’s Education Certificate (DEC) and processing fee, which is record that driver’s education was completed.

Road Test Options

Upon completion of all components of a driver’s education course, holding a learner’s permit for six consecutive months and entry of a student’s Driver’s Education Certificate (DEC) by the RMV into the RMV data base, a student has the following options for a road test to obtain a Massachusetts Driver’s License. Meadows Driving School actively communicates with the RMV as well as with our students to be able to offer the best options as far as road test location and timeliness.

1) You may have Meadows Driving School sponsor a student:

Meadows Driving School offers road tests at the RMV branch in Southbridge or at our Palmer school location. Meadows Driving School provides a vehicle for the road test as well as a certified instructor whom sits in the back seat, as the licensed adult, as required by the RMV. Only the student, the certified instructor and the RMV Examiner are allowed in the vehicle during the road test. All cell phones must be off during the road test.

“Road tests can be scheduled no more than 30 days before the student is eligible.”

Road tests conducted at the Southbridge RMV branch are scheduled by Meadows Driving School for WEEKDAYS. Students are required to have their own transportation to and from the RMV branch on the day of the road test. Meadows Driving School will schedule the student’s appointment with the RMV and we will notify them of the date and time of the road test appointment. Road tests can be scheduled no more than 30 days before the student is eligible. Due to a shortage of RMV Road Test Examiner personnel road test availability is limited throughout the state and therefore tests are typically scheduled 6-8 weeks out from the time the road test is booked.

Road tests conducted at our Palmer school location are conducted at alternative times outside of the regular business hours of the RMV, usually occurring on a Saturday or Sunday morning. Meadows Driving School requests the off schedule day and time 2 weeks prior to the request date. Meadows Driving School will be contacted by the close of business on the Wednesday after the request was submitted to confirm acceptance of the student roster and time and location for the road test. Availability is dependent on the availability of RMV Road Test Examiner personnel. The RMV requires that tests offered at our Palmer school location have a roster of at least 20 students so it is imperative that the decision of sponsorship be made in a timely manner.

“Be sure all information on the learner’s permit is accurate, i.e. date of birth.”

Upon passing a road test, a student whose licensing fees are prepaid does not have to go to an RMV branch to obtain their driver’s license. The student’s permit is validated by the RMV Examiner and becomes a temporary license, valid for 30 days. The RMV will mail the student’s permanent license within two weeks. Be sure all information on the learner’s permit is accurate, i.e. date of birth.

On the day of the road test, a student will need the learner’s permit and the Class D or M Road Test Application (which we provide to each student and we provide to parents at our parent class). You may also visit the RMV website www.massgov/rmv, go to Forms and Manuals and print out said road test application (not to be confused with application for license).

Please check with your individual insurance agents/companies to obtain information regarding when you must insure your newly licensed driver.

2) You may schedule your own road test with the Mass DOT Registry of Motor Vehicles division via calling (866) MASSRMV or via the internet www.massgov/rmv

You will be responsible for scheduling the appointment with the RMV, providing the required vehicle (parking brake in center console of vehicle or bench seat with floor brake easily accessible to the RMV Examiner), providing the required licensed adult to sit in the back seat during the test and to pay the RMV licensing fees, totaling $85.00, at the time of scheduling the road test appointment or in the branch upon the student passing the road test. You must have student’s permit number, name and date of birth when scheduling over the telephone. You must have student’s permit number, name, date of birth and social security number when scheduling online.
